WHAT TO REGISTER FOR
After you've chosen which stores you'd like to register at (I recommend three) and you've made appointments at each, grab your groom and take an inventory of your current casa. Do you have a fully stocked dream kitchen a la Veranda magazine or is it a collection of pots and pans from your days as a student? Do you have shelves plumb full of silver picture frames and sparkling crystal, or are you in dire need of both? (because for goodness' sake, don't we all deserve some civilized luxury?!) Asking yourself these questions will help you determine what you need to register for. To make registering a breeze, I've compiled four lists (print these out and take them to your appointments!), to guide you through what you need and how many of each:
HOW TO LET OTHER'S KNOW
No need to place an announcement in the paper to notify guests of your registry (although, that would be fun, wouldn't it?) Instead, kindly let people know via word of mouth, and by having the hosts of your showers list them on the invitations. Additionally, if you have a wedding website list it there as well.
REGISTERING DO'S and DON'TS
- If you need linens, do register for bedding and towels.
- If you've always wanted a waffle iron, register for one. However I recommend you be cautious when it comes to appliances, because do you really need three panini presses?
- Sterling silver flatware comes with a hefty price tag, so if grandmother plans on giving you hers or you don't feel it's a priority, leave it off the registry. However, I highly recommend you register for wedding china. You will covet it, and take tremendous pride passing it down to your children someday.
- Do write thank you notes for every gift that you receive (check my Everything You Need to Know About Thank You Notes post for tips).
- Do return duplicates and exchange them for something else on your registry that you need.
- Some bride and grooms request that guests donate to a charity in lieu of or in addition to their gift registry. If there is a charity that holds a special place in your heart, by all means add it to the registry!
There you have it! I hope you found this post valuable, and as always reach out to me if you need some MBB pearls of wisdom!
