A Mrs. of two years now, I fondly remember when my husband and I registered for our wedding. Carefully picking out our china, kitchen tools, and special decor items for our home, the process proved equally productive and fabulously thrilling. You get on a bit of a roll once they put that scanner in your hand!

Registering is so much more though than just selecting which color Cuisinart you want, it's creating a life together. The glasses aren't just glasses, they're the cups from which you'll drink juice together every morning. And the crystal vase isn't just a vase, it's the vase you'll fill with beautiful flowers from your husband. Clearly I'm a romantic! WHEN TO REGISTER
You're engaged, hooray! From bridal showers to the actual wedding, guests will no doubt be chomping at the bit to shower you with timeless treasures and everyday essentials. To guide guests on their quest for the perfect gift, register within the first two months of your engagement. This way, friends and family have not only time, but options for gift giving. Some people will send your wedding gift months in advance of the big day, while others will bring it to the event, and so you want to make sure that you're registry is complete early on.

WHERE TO REGISTER
National department stores, home stores, and kitchen-speciality stores dominate the registry world, as they offer everything newlyweds need for their nest. Top stores include: Neiman Marcus, Bloomingdales, Bergdorf Goodman, Barney's, Macy's, Tiffany & Co., Williams-Sonoma, Sur La Table, Crate & Barrel, and Pottery Barn just to name a few. However also explore local boutiques - if you live in Dallas consider Madison and The Ivy House - in your neighborhood, as they may have gorgeous gifts just calling your name! Dear friends of ours recently got married in New Orleans (an absolutely spectacular occasion!) and they registered at darling local shops there - definitely something to consider if you're having a destination wedding. Finally, a quick tip: Make registry appointments so you have a trusted sales associate to help you navigate the store and choose your must-have items.
